Mid and East Cornwall Green Party AGM
September 8 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Annual General Meeting, 11.00am Saturday 8 September
As well as the usual standing items on agenda, the AGM will discuss and (we hope) approve the merger of Mid and East Cornwall Green Party with West Cornwall Green Party, to form a single Cornwall Green Party. This is something that has long been discussed and which the officers of both parties feel makes sense in terms of making the best use of our combined resources. It will not mean a reduction in the local focus of either parties – in fact, it should mean more focus on individual Cornish constituencies, within an overarching Cornwall Green Party structure. West Cornwall Greens have approved this development, but it needs to be ratified by Mid and East Cornwall Greens before it can go ahead. The actual merger, if approved, would take place later in the autumn.
As is required by our constitution, the AGM will also include an election of officers (these may only be in place for a short time, as the combined Cornwall Green Party will need to elect officers when it is constituted) The list of officers that we need to elect on 8 September is as follows:
Membership Secretary/Data Officer
Social Media Officer
If you would like to stand as an officer, please forward a short statement in support of your candidacy to, Claire Hewlett: firstname.lastname@example.org. This should reach Claire no later than 24 August (two weeks before the meeting).
General election candidates hustings and selection 12.00pm 8 September
Following the AGM, we will be holding a hustings-style meeting for prospective general election candidates for Mid and East Cornwall constituencies to make short presentations to members in support of their candidacy. The currently highly volatile state of national politics means that a general election could be called at almost any time, and we need to have candidates in place as soon as possible for this eventuality. If you would like to be considered as a candidate, please email a short statement (300-500 words) saying why you would like to stand, to our current Elections Officer, Claire Hewlett: email@example.com. This should reach Claire no later than 24 August (two weeks before the meeting). These statements will be circulated to members before the meeting and, if a prospective candidate cannot attend the meeting on 8 September their statement will be read to the meeting.
Please note that prospective candidates need to have been members for at least 12 months, and need to find a member to propose them and another to second them. Their proposer and seconder should confirm this in writing via email to the Elections Officer at the email above, also by 24 August. We hope you can come to these important meetings and look forward to seeing you on 8 September.
